The Prompt

How might we make the laundry experience better for Yalies?

This is intentionally broad. It can be approached through many lenses, so be creative and explore many directions! Laundry has been a recurring, well-documented pain point on Yale's campus.

Hard Constraint: your solution can't simply be "buy more machines." We're looking for a solution to the experience, not a way to throw money at the problem. (Buying more machines also runs into issues with space, budget, energy, etc.)

Deliverables and Submission

  1. A visual piece showcasing your unique skills. This can be an app mockup, a website, posters, branding, social media, video, CAD, etc. Anything goes!
    1. We do not expect this deliverable to be fully functional. It can be a prototype or a proof of concept to show your thinking and creativity, made on a platform like Figma.
    2. This deliverable should be mid-to-high fidelity.
  2. Recorded video presentation: Solo (3-6min), Pair (5-9min) covering your process, research, and solution. Take us through your designs and project.
    1. Feel free to create slides or other visual aids for your video, but they are not required.
    2. You can do this through video editing, Zoom, Loom, and other tools. Your face does not have to appear, but we would like to hear your voice if possible.
  3. Submit links to your deliverables via **DevPost** (for pairs make individual account and make a group)
  4. Written individual application submitted via **Google Forms.** This will be a short application that covers who you are, relevant skills/background, and why you want to join DFA Pro Studio, and an AI use statement describing how AI was used in your process.

Can I use AI?

Yes, in fact we encourage it! However, we do ask that you fully disclose what AI tools you used, and how you used them. AI is a tool, and knowing how to use it well is a real skill. Use it to research, sketch ideas, write code, whatever helps you move. The one thing we ask: the thinking and the decisions should be yours. We want to see how you approach the prompt — AI can help you get there, but it shouldn't be the one doing the sprint for you. Be ready to talk through your choices, and you're golden.
